Summary/Abstract: The world in which primary school children grow up is one in which influences from the family environment, school, peer group, media and technology interact in proportions that are difficult to detect. Examples and counterexamples of behaviour, values and non-values, real and artificial landmarks reach the children's universe, with potential positive and negative consequences alike. In this context, it becomes appropriate to analyse the literary characters found in primary school textbooks in Romania, with the following objectives: (a) identifying the types of characters in children's literature represented in the textbooks; (b) differentiating the literary, educational, cultural, social, etc. contexts that justify the analysis, at this age level, of certain types of literary characters (by reporting to what the curriculum for the primary school in Romania provides, at the level of content, specific skills, examples of learning activities, didactic recommendations); (c) formulating questions for further research in the field.
