Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to introduce documents preserved in the Jesuit Roman Archives which concern the presence and activities of the Jesuits in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth starting from their arrival there in 1564. The first part focuses on the most important events and the relevant literature. It also contains a general presentation of the archives. The second and the main part of the essay is a review of some documents authored by Polish Jesuits or referring to their activities in their homeland. The main typologies of the archival sources are presented here with a few specific examples: correspondence, including the "annual letters" and materials for the Order’s history, the annual and three-year catalogues, obituaries, formulae of the final religious vows, and finally, other documents, mostly those concerning legal and financial matters. The aim of this presentation is to show how these documentary resources can be used while studying various topics and facing several questions.
