Summary/Abstract: The events that took place more than three decades ago upon publishing Dictionary of Technology are used here for broader examination of societal relations in an anthropological perspective. The connection with the crisis of social system appears when the control of “enemies” turns into the conflict that focuses on their elimination. This attitude corresponds to rituals of tribal cultures which cyclically renew their identity by symbolically ostracizing a “scapegoat”. Modern development of technological culture makes actual forms of symbolical relations disappear, concomitantly ostracizing designated “enemies” on the real, existential level. The experience of events related to Dictionary of Technology stresses the fruitlessness of such approach, not only from humane perspective, but also from the perspective of system, as mechanical suppression of different opinions leads to neglecting of ideas which could initiate social transformation, thus preventing the breakdown of the whole society.
