Summary/Abstract: The research explored narratives within the academic community about the idea of the university, identifying three core metanarratives—traditional, modern, and postmodern—as flexible frameworks rather than fixed categories, reflecting fragmented and overlapping views shaped by turbulent social transformations. Findings showed that academics hold diverse, often contradictory visions of the university’s cultural, political, and economic roles, revealing an unclear and unsettled collective identity amid ongoing societal change. Rather than confirming a dominant model, the study highlighted the university’s liminal state and the complexity of how its social role is conceptualized and debated within academia.
