Summary/Abstract: Chapter explores how Serbian universities are increasingly seen as key actors in economic development, particularly through education, research, and partnerships with industry. While international and European institutions promote university-market integration via liberalization and privatization, Serbia’s higher education system is only partially aligned due to uneven state policies and limited private sector collaboration. The study reveals differing perceptions within the academic community about universities’ economic roles, with tensions arising from market pressures and the preservation of institutional autonomy.
