Summary/Abstract: Analysis explores how individual narratives about the social role of the university are shaped by both personal experience and broader historical metanarratives, emphasizing that these narratives are reconstructed based on present needs and expectations of the future. He distinguishes between narrative (what happened) and discourse (how and why), noting that discourses are shaped by symbolic vocabularies and are constrained by societal boundaries of acceptable truth. The study identifies hybrid local narratives—fragments of grand narratives—about the university's role in Serbia and beyond, analyzing them through four dimensions of societal transformation: economic, political, socio-structural, and cultural.
