Summary/Abstract: The upcoming transition of Bulgaria from the lev to the euro creates significant opportunities and challenges for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which play a key role in the country’s economy. This change brings both new opportunities and considerable challenges for businesses. On the one hand, the introduction of the euro may improve Bulgarian SMEs' access to European markets and reduce currency risk. On the other hand, businesses may face increased costs and challenges related to inflation and heightened compliance requirements with financial regulations. This report examines the main risks and benefits, as well as recommendations for the successful adaptation of SMEs to the new currency. The report focuses on the specific ways in which this currency change will affect SMEs in Bulgaria, considering economic, financial, and regulatory aspects. This comprehensive assessment of the impact on Bulgarian SMEs aims to provide information for the effective adaptation of businesses to the upcoming transition, while also analyzing how small and medium enterprises can make the most of the new conditions within the Eurozone.
