Summary/Abstract: Technology develops fast in the recent years, especially after the Covid pandemic. That has affected all the economic sectors and at the same the future of currencies is discussed and analyzed as well. The purpose of the paper is to present the digital euro in terms of the digitalization of financial operations and the role of the central banks as well as to discuss its opportunities and challenges.
