Summary/Abstract: ECOWAS is an economic organization of Western African countries. It was created with the help of the former colonial states (France, the United Kingdom and Portugal) with main aim to coordinated economics and utilization of the rich natural resources of the region. During the years the organization evolved from extremely economic into political and military one. There is a marked tendency for breaking links with the former colonial states and reverse toward some of the new global powers.
