Summary/Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic, a global crisis of unprecedented scale, has caused profound impacts on societies, economies, and the environment. This study investigates the relationship between the pandemic and its effects on the Western Balkans, with a specific focus on environmental and socioeconomic dimensions. While certain positive outcomes such as a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a surge in the Information Technology and Communication (ITC) sector have been observed, the overall impact poses a substantial threat to sustainable development (SD). This study offers a comprehensive overview by identifying challenges faced by Western Balkans countries, assessing policy responses, and providing insights for a resilient and sustainable recovery.
