Summary/Abstract: This review maps the research on the role of pedagogical translation and mediation activities in the teaching of French in tertiary education. The selected research papers suggest that the use of mother tongue can be an important and equal tool for communication skills development in second/foreign language acquisition and supports interculturality in education, similarly to mediation activities in mother tongue or target language.
