Summary/Abstract: This study aims to provide an insight into the current research of the development of the self-assessment skill, focusing on tertiary students of English. The study poses the following questions: How is self-assessment defined in the selected research papers? What are the most common aims and methods of the selected research papers? What are the essential findings of the selected research papers? The selected research papers show that the development of the self-assessment skill has a positive effect on the overall language acquisition. Research into the actual process of the development of self-assessment skills is still scarce.
