Summary/Abstract: The article examines the problems, dangers and challenges facing Russian criminal policy in contemporary Russia. The paper analyses the positive and negative aspects of the reform of criminal legislation with the adoption of Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (1996). It concludes that this code cannot be regarded as the "pinnacle of legislative perfection", but it undoubtedly represents a serious achievement of domestic criminal law and criminal policy thought.
