Summary/Abstract: The representation and release for free circulation of safe and healthy food is an essential aspect of the internal market, which is a significant factor in quaranteeing and preserving the health and lives of consumers. Ensuring these activities is achieved by the implementation of the adopted strategic objectives set out in the operation of the customs administrations of each Member State of the European Union. The aim of this report is to review and analyse the current regulatory mechanisms and requirements for the implementation of enhanced customs controls on the entry of high-risk commodities in order to prevent adverse health effects for consumers throughout the agri-food chain. The relevance of the preventive approach in developing the concept of food safety legislation is assessed. This paper is focused on business operators whose activities are related to the entry and control of high risk commodities.
