Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the current situation and trends in the waste management system in the Republic of Croatia. The aim of the paper is to identify the main problems in the waste management system based on the analysis of secondary data, and thereby create a basis for empirical research in this area. The paper first discusses the regulatory framework for glass waste management, followed by an analysis of the current situation in the collection and recycling of municipal waste and glass waste packaging in Croatia. The practicality of applying the deposit system is discussed through the analysis of drivers and obstacles in the example of the deposit system for beer bottles. The results show a growing trend in the amount of all waste packaging collected. However, the current situation in the waste management system in Croatia is still not at a satisfactory level, especially regarding the disposal of glass packaging.
