Summary/Abstract: This report presents a brief description of the management style of managers who hold middle and senior management positions in the structures of central and local administration in Bulgaria. In the context of research related to leadership and management, the questions remain important: what are the leaders in the structures of central and local administration?; what are the preferred leadership styles?; are the leaders authentic leaders or are they rather administrators?; what are the preferred management approaches, etc.? To study the typical characteristics of the heads of the central and local administrations, a combined approach of quantitative qualitative research methods was used. For the purposes of quantitative analysis, a toolkit was used, through which it became possible to measure the four main dimensions of authentic leadership: 1) self–knowledge; 2) internal moral perspective; 3) balanced actions based on information; 4) transparency in relations. The results of the qualitative research support and supplement the conclusions made.
