Summary/Abstract: The author aims to present interdisciplinary problems on the borderline between the history of art, law and criminology, connected with the unusual history of the painter, who deceived not only the greedy collectors such as Hermann Göring, but also the greatest experts on 17th century Dutch painting such as Abraham Bredius and the whole public opinion, putting everyone in a state of “collective hallucinations”. We will see how a Dutch painter, Han van Meegeren, taking revenge on the artistic community, perpetrated one of the most elaborate hoaxes in the history of art.
