Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on legal issues concerning street art in comparative terms, both in its social and legal context in the USA, Great Britain and Poland. The author discusses the problem of intellectual property rights in public space (personal copyrights versus the ownership rights of the object on which the work is created), analyses the street art phenomenon and its historical background. She presents the special nature of this form of creativity (illegality transitory nature, anonymity) and its legal status in comparison with paintings, discussing the relationship between the artist and the owner of the work.
