Summary/Abstract: An ample body of evidence suggests that various aspects of goal directed behaviour occur outside of conscious awareness (Moskowitz & Gesundheit, 2008), which is closely related to the phenomenon known as social priming (Molden, 2014). It has been proposed that two regulatory dynamics, determined by construal level, may play a crucial role in the attempts to decipher the nature of this phenomenon (Fujita & Trope, 2014). Corroborating this assumption, a pilot experimental study was carried out (N=16 University students). An influence of the mental set manipulation (procedural priming of low/high level construal) in the context of academic goal and related congruent/ or conflicting (socializing) goal activation (via supraliminal priming) on the speed of the reactions to the words related to the attainment of conflicting goal in the lexical decision task was analyzed. As expected, the results pointed out to the activation of conflicting goal in low-level, but not in high-level construal.
