Summary/Abstract: J. D. Salinger’s greatest work, The Catcher in the Rye, was banned several times due to the novel’s literary style. It was not just the theme that the novel deals with shocked people, but the amount of taboo and slang usage too. The paper presents 22 taboo terms picked out from the original work, their occurrence and their exact translation in the target texts, which are Hungarian and Romanian.
