Summary/Abstract: The study identifies the difficulties in the translation of the Romanian classic playwright, I. L. Caragiale, and it offers some possible ways to approach the most important European languages. The author identifies the major problem in the fact that the hilarious characters of Caragiale use a lot of French loanwords, which were incorrectly adapted and used by those who wanted to imitate the real Romanian elite formed in Paris after 1848. Nowadays, it is extremely difficult to translate these merry aberrations, even for the French.
