Summary/Abstract: Ota Filip, in his novel Valdštýn and Lukrecie, creates a character of the disillusioned scientist, Martin, whose desire is to achieve initiation by searching for a historical figure with whom he can successfully compare himself. Albrecht Valdštýn becomes such a figure; however, in the process of comparison, it is revealed who in fact deserves initiation. This paper focuses on the last stage of the process—gaining of power—in both cases. Storytelling structure and ideological discourse based on the works of Hyden White in both narrative lines of the novel are also analyzed. The main goal is to examine the conditions of the right to power in the context of initiation of main characters, Valdštýn and Lukrecia.
