Summary/Abstract: Although the term “vampire” and the earliest legends about these creatures are considered these days to be of eastern origin, Slavonic culture and vampires appear to have many connections. “Slavic vampires” have a less pronounced sexual aspect, which is important in many classic vampire stories, and, instead, deal more with the concept of a “bad death” and the disease/illness category. This paper is an attempt to examine the shape and anthropological meanings of vampire figures in Polish literary texts.
