Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the situation of women in science. The desk research method was used to analyse global and domestic data on the professional activity of women in higher education institutions. The investigation focuses on four critical areas of academic work: reconciling work and family responsibilities, the problem of research productivity during the pandemic, research collaborations, mentoring and informal networks, mental health and well-being. The results of the study prove the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the career development of female academics. The social crisis it triggered not only perpetuates the gender inequalities that had already existed in academia but also causes long-term adverse implications for the engagement, experience, and retention of female researchers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation of women in academia has become less predictable and more challenging than before its outbreak.
