Summary/Abstract: The aim of the chapter is to identify and analyse key issues related to the definition and functioning of the helix organizations and the helix structures. The helix organizations integrate activities of universities, businesses and government in the innovation process. In turn, the helix structures are configurations of relations between managers responsible for the development of the organization’s potential and managers responsible for day-to-day operations. The connecting element between organizations and structures is the helix metaphor, which implies close and symbiotic relations between the integrated helixes (spheres). The chapter discusses features that distinguish the helix organizations and the helix structures from other organizational solutions, their advantages and disadvantages, and the factors that influence the successes and failures in their functioning. The final part presents a summary of the considerations and indicates topics for further research in this area.
