Summary/Abstract: The monograph confronts corporate governance structures that have been used for many years in the business world with new solutions introduced to the institutional academic environment. Reforms of higher education systems in Poland and other countries have been changing the logic of functioning of academic institutions. The most important changes are the professionalization of university management processes, the growing importance of the university’s “third mission” and managerial power structures. The presented discussion was the basis for formulating the conclusion that the coexistence of two seemingly contradictory ideas expressed by the concepts of “Humboldt University” and “corporate university” is possible. It has the form of a soft version of managerialism in its humanized, neo-collegiate form. This requires redefining the authority structures and methods of managing the university while maintaining traditional academic norms and values.
