Summary/Abstract: The research regards Italian prepositions in the context of the infinitive andare. Italian shows various construals with diverse prepositions expressing the relation [GO], e.g. andare a scuola, andare in ufficio etc. The analysis is focused on simple prepositions and their usages in expressions being result of direct experience of the world or of metaphorical and/or metonymical extension. The aim is to examine the role of the landmark, its features as an object at the moment of preposition selection. The reference point is R. Langacker’s Cognitive Grammar, especially the process of imagery and the trajector-landmark relation. The interpretation of landmark shall be the decisive element in terms of selection of a preposition in the context of the verb andare.
