Summary/Abstract: The study contains theoretical and practical considerations on motivation in foreign language education presented by the authors from the perspective of both the teacher and the learner in various age groups, at different levels of proficiency, thus in diverse contexts of language education: school and university courses as well as teacher training programmes. The content has been divided into three topical parts covering the idea of motivation and motivational factors in glottodidactics, motivation in various educational contexts and the use of new technology in the development of motivation in practice. The selection will inspire the reader to reflect on what motivation is, what factors it is influenced by and what role the foreign language teacher plays in its development.
