Summary/Abstract: The book focuses on late works of Leopold Buczkowski, one of the most unusual and controversial Polish writers of the 20th century, often called a “Polish Beckett”. The author analyses in detail "Timely Beauty" ("Uroda na czasie"), "Bathing in Lucca" ("Kąpiele w Lucca"), "The officer at the Vespers" ("Oficer na nieszporach") and "A Stone in the Nappies" ("Kamień w pieluszkach"), published after 1970 Buczkowski’s late works considered the most hermetic and the least commented on. Buczkowski’s works linked Polish literature to the most important trends in the avant-garde Western novel. The key problem and motif of the book is the crisis of the novel in contemporary prose and performativity.
