Summary/Abstract: A selection of the most interesting letters from the years 1745-1768, showing different motivations and aspects of personality of Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717-1768) and presenting the changes in the aesthetic awareness in the 18th century. The letters, written by one of the most influential art writers of the Enlightenment, are of great importance for the formation of new models of perceiving art in 18th century Europe. They considerably influenced artistic and aesthetic critical writing.
