Summary/Abstract: The illustrated textbook by Jan Amos Comenius (Latin Comenius, 1592-1670) Orbis sensualium pictus, or the world in images of things accessible to the senses (first edition: Nuremberg 1658) is considered to be the prototype of modern school textbooks. This edition is a reprint of the first edition and the first new translation of a Latin text into Polish in 200 years. The principle of visualization previously formulated by Comenius - the so-called golden rule for learners, that they make available to the senses as much as they can, was applied here: integrated teaching, teaching the mother tongue along with a foreign language on the basis of practical language communication, simultaneous learning of the language and knowledge of the world of things. Over 350 years, over 200 editions of this work and translations into 20 languages have been published, which is the best proof of its extraordinary popularity among small and large audiences from subsequent eras.
