Summary/Abstract: The research problem of the thesis aims to define the structure of civic attitudes. It is assumed this term would be viewed as a convergence or divergence of these attitudes with the liberal or communitarian model. These models of citizenship dominate the literature of the subject and the difference between them equals mainly a less or more intensive participation of citizens in public life. It is key to examine whether, in the researched communities of Lodz and Ivanovo, one of the dimensions of citizenship discussed in the literature prevails, and if so, which one. To sum up, it should be noted the communitarian model of citizenship is characterized by citizens’ greater involvement in the matters of the community (understood here as the home country) than in the liberal model. This activity requires both a donation of free time and a greater engagement in social as well as political life. An additional aim of the work is to focus on the similarities and the differences between civic activity in Lodz and Ivanovo. These exhibit different traditions when it comes to political culture despite their very similar mezzostructural conditions determined by their postindustrial character. The empirical basis for this article is the research material of the project “Revival of post-industrial cities.” The project was financed from the funds of the National Science Centre in the years 2011–2014. The practical base for this article is the research material covered by a representative group among the 700 citizens of Lodz and 437 citizens of Ivanovo. This analysis confirms low interest in the sphere of political and social activity in both analyzed cities (with more active citizens in Ivanovo).
