Summary/Abstract: The author concentrates on four humanitarian and philanthropic initiatives that were undertaken in the Second Polish Republic by American social activists from such organizations as the American Relief Administration, Joint, the Rockefeller Foundation, or the YMCA. The book presents how American social norms and family values were transferred to allegedly backward Poland. The author uses gender and social class as main categories of analysis and highlights religious and ethnic dimensions of the analyzed initiatives.
