Summary/Abstract: “An introduction to geoinformation with ArcGIS” is a coursebook based on the authors’ didactic experience which they have gained teaching geoinformation at the Faculty of Geographical Sciences of the University of Łódź since 2012. All tasks and exercises described in the publication have been designed for the use with ArcGIS 10.4.1 software by Esri. The range of topics includes basic information necessary to better understand the idea of geoinformation and begin working with the GIS software. The book has been divided into eight chapters in which the ArcGIS Deskop application, the workflow in ArcMap, using the attribute tables, coordinate systems and data sources have been discussed. The more advanced issues are connected with attribute and spatial queries, but also with result visualisation in which cartographic methods are used. Each chapter begins by highlighting the goal of a class. Later, concepts necessary to do practical tasks are presented. In chapter conclusions there are test questions and extra tasks for individual work, the aim of which is to check the acquired knowledge and skills. The intended audience of this coursebook are students of geoinformation, geodesy, geography, spatial economy, and all readers interested in Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
