Summary/Abstract: The author conducts a thorough analysis of the identity of the Korean intellectual based on three novels from the “A day in the life of novelist Gubo” series by Pak T'aewŏn (1909–1986), Ch’oe In-hun (1936–) and Chu In-sǒk (1963–), whose reflections allow the author to trace the situation of the Korean nation in different historical periods. She focuses on four elements of their identity: roots, memory, body and plans for the future, which has enabled her to prove that the identities of the writers of Gubo are living and dynamic structures, which undergo transformations under the influence of various factors.
