Summary/Abstract: The publication deals with the issue of evaluating the effects of the currently followed urban policies, especially in reference to the so-called nightmare of participation. The book is part of a debate concerned with phenomena such as urban social conflicts, the revitalization of urban space, urban planning and housing policies. The author analyses the problem of gentrification in Poland and its links to revitalization programmes. The publication in based on the author’s research on the bottom-up production of space in Warsaw, New York, and Istanbul.
