Summary/Abstract: Our age has witnessed the death and dissolution of Europe. The so-called historic Europe is dead and cannot be revived. The European state system collapsed during the First World War, and because statesmen at the Paris Peace Conference and in the interwar period proved incapable of rebuilding it on a secure foundation, it was completely destroyed in the Second World War. This book sets out to examine the events that destroyed the pillars of the old European state system and to understand the reasons why believing in the restoration of an independent Europe is illusory. Without a critical understanding of the revolutionary character of the political history of the last fifty years, we cannot hope to make sound decisions regarding a possible new political order for our world.
