Summary/Abstract: The monograph presents the results from the exhaustive research the authors conducted under a university project aimed at facilitating the internationalisation of the institution they work for – the University of National and World Economy (UNWE). Based on the development of the internationalisation of higher education worldwide, as well as on the study of a fifty-year long period of UNWE internationalisation, the researchers develop recommendations for the enhancement of the UNWE internationalisation process. It is noteworthy that the period encompasses three different political regimes – the socialist, transitional and capitalist ones, which contributes to the uniqueness of the research. Considering socio-economic processes and trends along with successes and challenges provides a meaningful analysis of policies, frameworks and models at all levels – global, national, regional, institutional. This makes the study a valuable resource for decision-making related to the internationalisation of higher education not only by the university management of the particular HEI, but also by any other academic institution or policy-making body of local, national or global scope.
