Summary/Abstract: This monograph presents an interdisciplinary examination of the socio-economic dimensions of forced migration, with particular emphasis on the Republic of Bulgaria as an external border of the European Union. Combining theoretical perspectives, legal analysis, institutional assessment, statistical evidence, and original empirical research, it explores contemporary refugee processes within the broader European migration and security context. The study examines migration dynamics, asylum governance, the national and European legal framework, and the implications of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, while incorporating findings from in-depth interviews with asylum seekers and an expert survey. Its scientific contribution lies in the integration of legal, socio-economic, institutional, and empirical perspectives into a comprehensive assessment of refugee governance in Bulgaria. By identifying key structural challenges and formulating policy recommendations, the monograph seeks to contribute to the academic and policy discourse on forced migration while providing insights for policymakers, researchers, students, and practitioners working in the fields of migration, security, and public policy.
