Summary/Abstract: This new edition of the collection was compiled based on the principle of selecting Jewish folktales and legends that have been imbued with the spirit of the Jewish popular imagination in German-speaking lands—even when the material originated in other regions of Jewish settlement. Consequently, the number of Jewish legends from Prague has been increased, and the ancient, legendary Jewish quarter of Nikolsburg in Moravia has been accorded a place in this selection of *Sippurim*. The remaining tales added to the volume consist of popular legends and lore rooted in Aggadah and Midrash; these stories are at home among Jewish communities everywhere and continually nourish their imagination—an imagination that, naturally, is shaped by the cultural environment in which it exists.
