Summary/Abstract: The present book is a university course textbook designed for students in social sciences programmes. Its purpose is to present both the theoretical foundations and the practical applications of the most commonly used statistical methods in social sciences. The textbook supports the practical use of theoretical knowledge through step-by-step solved examples, both manually and using IBM SPSS. The examples use a freely available online database (EVS Romania – Hungarian minority study, 2020) and guide students step by step through the most important basic statistical concepts (population, variable, levels of measurement), as well as database-related operations (creation, labelling, import, merging, case selection, variable transformation).
