Summary/Abstract: The Learned Society of the John Paul II University of Lublin is an association established for scholars is well-known and recognised in academic circles. The Society’s 90th anniversary, which we celebrated in 2024, was commemorated with a historical text. This time we present a monograph covering the entirety of the subject areas that the Society has dealt with. So far, its history and activities have been described in rather summary and synthetic form in articles published to mark the Society’s anniversaries or those of the University. Additionally, entries on the Society have been published in dictionaries and encyclopaedias. The Learned Society of KUL is an institution with a unique reputation among other such societies in Poland because it is in a complementary and reciprocal relationship with the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. The histories of both institutions have always been intertwined in some measure. The structure of this historical monograph draws on earlier texts, but the publication also mentions themes that have not been presented yet. First, it outlines the Society’s history by mentioning the major events. Next, it describes the Society’s structure – faculties, institutes and commissions – lectures, conferences, research projects, and – last but not least – the Reverend Idzi Radziszewski Award. The next vital aspect is the Society’s publishing activity, covering many scholarly journals, participation in promotional campaigns and book fairs, and the awards received for its publications. The description of the Society’s finances highlights its sources of funding, budget and membership fees, mentioning also the employment of editorial and administrative staff for the Society is not only an association of scholars, but also an employer. The monograph includes appendices with a list of all members (indicating their membership status), compositions of the successive boards and review committees of successive terms, as well as detailed lists of scientific and administrative sessions. The index of persons also contains a list of positions held in the Society's governing bodies, with the years in which those positions were held. The publication is complete with photographs.
