Summary/Abstract: For years I have felt the urge to write a book which should give a clear, concise, and true picture of Yugoslavia. This urge was mainly due to many inaccuracies that I encountered even in the books of most reliable authors whose works of reference were inaccurate, or who succumbed to propaganda, or whose assumptions were invalidated by later developments. … I have tried to tell the truth without fear or favour and to back my arguments with documentary evidence. However, a large section of the book covers recent events where proper perspective is still lacking; and if I have erred in anything I am prepared to acknowledge my error provided I am proved wrong. I have carefully weighed my evidence and I am certain I am nowhere wrong in fundamentals. (the author)
