Summary/Abstract: The study examines the financial safety net in Bulgaria, with a focus on the deposit guarantee and investor compensation schemes as key instruments for protecting users of financial services and maintaining financial stability. The analysis covers the development of the banking system, the deposit market, and the capital market during the period 2015 – 2024, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It examines the regulatory framework, the financial adequacy of the financial safety net, the scope and coverage limits of protection, as well as the mechanisms for financing and paying out guaranteed amounts. Through empirical analysis and a survey-based study, the level of public awareness and perceptions of the financial safety net are assessed. On this basis, conclusions and recommendations are formulated to improve the protective schemes with a view to enhancing the resilience of the Bulgarian financial system.
