Summary/Abstract: The monograph Beyond Tomorrow: Dystopia and Its Forms in Contemporary Czech Prose traces the resurgence of dystopian themes (not only) in contemporary Czech literature and addresses terminological issues that have not yet been fully resolved. In its theoretical chapters, it raises and answers fundamental questions of genre: Is dystopia a distinct genre? Can any typologies and genre variants be defined for it? Are dystopia and anti-utopia synonymous terms? etc. It also recapitulates the use of the term in Czech literary studies to date and offers a cross-section of world and Czech literary dystopian production. Through critical analysis and interpretation of selected Czech novels and novellas published after 2010, it attempts to construct as comprehensive a picture as possible of the dystopian genre in recent Czech literature, including its transformations, to capture the specifics of individual dystopian systems, and to relate the information obtained, at least briefly, to the current global context.
