Summary/Abstract: This monograph provides a detailed insight into the linguistic mechanisms that shape the form of European official texts across languages. It focuses on nominality as a key stylistic feature of European Union documents and tracks how selected English nominal structures—complex noun phrases and non-finite verb forms—are transformed in authentic Czech translations. On a theoretical basis that combines contrastive linguistics and translation theory, the author analyzes translation shifts between two systemically different languages, the use of which is anchored in the culturally and communicatively diverse environment of European administration. The quality-oriented analysis evaluates the adequacy of translation solutions with regard to the linguistic specifics of English and Czech, the influence of Eurojargon, and, in particular, the requirements for text functionality. The publication is intended for students of English and Czech studies, translation studies, and European studies, as well as experts in the theory and practice of translation in a domestic and international context who wish to expand their knowledge of institutional translation and intercultural communication.
