Summary/Abstract: This volume addresses the longstanding historiographical disadvantage of Banat, a region lacking major academic institutions and therefore often marginalized in Romanian historical scholarship. The work argues for the urgent need to rebuild the documentary foundations necessary for a comprehensive history of Banat, through the publication of archival collections, repertories, and catalogues, and to renew methodological approaches by embracing interdisciplinarity and comparative perspectives. Banat’s multicultural, multilingual, and multi‑confessional character is presented not as an obstacle but as a valuable opportunity for richer historical interpretation.
The volume brings together six studies that, although diverse in topic, share a unified methodological framework and rely on newly introduced or previously unpublished documents. These contributions aim to stimulate further research and reinterpretation by making new sources available. The editors acknowledge the collaborative nature of this endeavor, highlighting the essential support of regional museums and scholars who facilitated access to manuscripts, translations, and archival materials. The work positions itself as part of a broader effort to revitalize Banat historiography through teamwork, critical inquiry, and the systematic recovery of documentary evidence.
