Summary/Abstract: The book deals with topics such as industrial conflict and workers' organization, the problem of class consciousness, the relationship between the institutional structure of society and self-management, pluralism and mass society, and a historical analysis of council democracy. The first part of the book presents the results of ten-year research (1972–1981), conducted at the Faculty of Sociology, Political Sciences and Journalism and the Institute of Sociology in Ljubljana, while the second part theoretically sheds light on empirical research on industrial conflict, interest structures, alienation and the position of workers in Slovenian society at that time.
