Summary/Abstract: In this interdisciplinary study, which combines literary comparative studies and translatology, the author analyses the translations of Bolesław Leśmian’s poetry into Czech, Slovak, Russian and Ukrainian. She examines in detail key translation challenges, such as so-called leśmianisms, neologisms, metaphors, negative poetics and the specific categories of time and space that shaped poet’s works. The publication is notable for its introduction of transposition theory as a tool to solve the problem of untranslatability and practical recommendations for translators. It fills an important gap in research on the reception of Leśmian in Slav languages, especially in Czech, Slovak and Ukrainian, which have so far been marginalized.
