Summary/Abstract: The monograph "Media and Politics. Intertwining and Influence" is dedicated to the relations and dependencies between journalism and various centers of power. The studied field of intertwining is the processes of mediatization of politics, which is increasingly subject to media logic, and the politicization of the media. The text is divided into 4 main chapters: 1. The basic principles of the democratic system, digitalized democracy, the main functions of the media as a public watchdog and the fourth estate are analyzed; 2. The connections between the indices for the study of democracy and media freedom are studied; 3) The decadent relations between the media and politics are described, such as populism, media populism, the commercialization of journalism and its withdrawal from basic public functions, and the degrading processes of the mediatization of the public space are also examined. 4. The book also analyzes the effects of the partisanization of journalism, its domestication, and proposes current cases of various forms of the culture of pressure in journalism in Bulgaria and around the world. The research thesis of the monograph states that democratic deficits stimulate a culture of pressure on the media and turn journalism into a threatened and difficult-to-practice profession. And this contributes to the collapse of democratic principles and mechanisms for making informed decisions by society. The time frame of the study is focused on the last two decades, case studies from Bulgaria, Europe and the United States are studied. Various research approaches are applied, and a survey among 17 journalists was also conducted. The book is addressed to scientists, experts, lectures and students in the fields of media, journalism, political science, communication.
